About Ridgeway
Ridgeway Village is well placed geographically. It nestles right in the top corner of North-East Derbyshire, benefiting from the proximity of Sheffield, with its employment and shopping, yet being quite separate from it.
Formerly in the Sheffield "Green Belt", it is now within the Moss Valley Rural Conservation Area, with all the benefits which that status bestows.
Ridgeway has retained a keen sense of identity, and has a successful primary school, two churches, enviable sports facilities and village hall. There is a football field, a cricket wicket, a bowling green, three all weather floodlit tennis courts, and a general playing field with a dedicated children's playground. All these facilities, including the village hall, are owned by the village and run by a committee of village residents.
Ridgeway village won the title of "Best Village" in 2003 and 2004 in the East Midlands in Bloom competition. In 2005 Ridgeway again won first prize, making a hat-trick of awards. Alll the flowers beds, tubs and baskets in the village are provided by the village in bloom committee, which is funded by local sponsorship, donations and local fund-raising.
Despite being only one mile long, the village boasts four pubs, and a craft centre, which is owned and supported by the District Council.
An extensive network of public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing the village ensures that walkers and riders can always find somewhere interesting to go. See Walking in Ridgeway
A fuller description of the village and especially its history can be found in the history section of this website.
